Air Pump for Car Tires
Before you go out and buy air pump for car tires,
there are a few critical considerations that should
be taken into account; otherwise, you might end up frustrated.
Frustrated? How so? Well, it’s frustrating to spend your
hard-earned cash on products that do not deliver the results
that you wish for! Believe me, there are a lot of poor quality
car tire air pumps available on the market hence why I created
this site.
I know you’re a responsible consumer on a mission to
find air pumps that deliver the best value for money. You
probably need some assistance in finding the best one for your
buck hence so that's what this website is for. The objective of
this site is to help you discover only high-quality car tire
air pumps.
Now, earlier I mentioned something about “critical
considerations” before buying an air pump, so let me elaborate
a little…
Things You Need to Know Before Buying Air Pump for
Car Tires
First, I should mention about durability. Some air
pumps or compressors do not last long. These are poor quality
products so you should avoid them like the plague! A decent
quality tire air pump should last for many years because it’s
not something that you use regularly, right? Generally,
most car owners would use it to fill up their tires once a
month. So that’s only 12 times a year. No big deal right? Well
apparently, for those junk air compressors, filling up your
tires once per month it’s a big deal. I’ve had a few junk ones
over the years and they tend to last no more than 2 years, and
I use them only once or sometimes twice a month (including bike
tires) max.
Another thing I should mention is the hose attachment.
Some air pumps have non-removable hose attached to the unit.
Basically it’s already press-fit to the pump so if anything
goes wrong with the hose such as leaking for instance, you’ll
not be able to replace the hose. Instead, you have to replace
the entire unit which is a waste of money. So this is
definitely an important consideration. I think it’s best that
you get a compressor with removable/ multiple hose
attachments.
My method of finding long-lasting, high quality air
pump for car tires is very simple. What I would typically do is
compile a list of top-rated (based on feedback from multiple
users) air pumps on Amazon website. I buy a lot of stuff from
Amazon because they ship pretty quickly and I get to save some
money (air compressors sold at retail stores are pricey), save
time (I work on shifts so it’s a bit difficult for me to go out
and buy things) and save gas as well (stuff get ship right to
my door). Plus, they have that free shipping option so you save
even more money.
So I should leave a link right below where you can
obtain a decent list of only highly-rated air pumps for tires.
4 STARS and above mind you, so you're going to be in good
hands! Feel free to browse through the list and see which air
pump truly fits your requirement and budget.
Portable Air Pump for Car Tires
If quality portable air pumps are what you’re looking
for, then I reckon you’d be pleased with the performance of
Viair’s Heavy Duty Portable Air Compressor.
Here’s a picture of this baby.
Let me tell ya, this portable air pump is super
reliable and long-lasting. I bought it almost 4
years ago and it’s still working to this day. You know how
noisy some car tire pumps can be? I don’t have a problem
with that but given a choice, I would definitely pick an
air pump that go about its business quietly.
UPDATE
(25/03/2012):
After roughly
4 and a half years of wonderful service, my VIAIR 70P is
now dead as Dee Dee. So I bought the much superior VIAIR
90P as a replacement. I’ll post a picture of it right
down here…
VIAIR 90P Car Tire Air
Compressor
Okay, so this model has a higher price tag
than the VIAIR 70P but let me tell you something, the VIAIR 90P
is worth every dime. The latter is also a 12-volt
portable air compressor yet is much, much more powerful,
works a lot faster at inflating you vehicle’s tires, and can
inflate up 31” tires.
Another major difference is that the VIAIR
90P’s 30-amp inline fuse power cable has to be clamped onto
your car battery. Yup, that means bigger juice for a
significantly quicker tire inflation process and no chance of
blowing your car’s fuse. Blown car fuse is a risk that you
would have to accept when using the VIAIR 70P which hooks up
directly to your vehicle’s cigarette lighter
socket.
What about you? Ditto? Okay then, guess what?
This particular unit happens to be one of the quietest
mini-compressors around. Also, you know how some pumps are kind
of slow at filling up your tires? Well, not this baby. It's
capable of inflating all kinds of tires including cars and bike
tires, lawn mower, balls, rafts, beach toys etc, and it fills
them rather quickly too. However I have a couple of
complaints about this compressor; the pressure gauge is flimsy
and inaccurate.
Yup, flimsy it is. For example, if your tires
require 36 psi, you’re going to have a slight difficulty
determining exactly where that number is on the gauge
indicator. See, on the indicator, there are 5 marks placed in
between 25 to 50. Where is the 36 mark exactly? Well, that’s
the tricky part but I’ve gotten used to it so it’s not a major
problem for me.
Regarding the inaccuracy, well to be frank, most air
compressors have inaccurate built-in pressure gauge anyway. So
here’s my advice; if you find it difficult to determine the
variance and require absolutely precise reading, then buy a
separate gauge instead. All in all, this portable air pump is
as solid as they come.
Companies That Make Electric Air Pumps for Car
Tires
A lot of companies apparently, but funny thing is,
most people couldn’t care less. I mean if you look at other
items such as cell phones for instance, people do pay attention
to the brand name. You often hear things like, “hey I just
bought a Nokia cell phone” or my “new Samsung 645452 model
rocks!” But when it comes to air pumps, “yeah I just bought an
electric air pump. Can’t remember the brand name but it works
great” or “dunno the brand. Who cares? It’s just an air pump.
It fills up my wheels and my anorexic hamster. That’s
that.”
Anyway, I thought I should mention a few companies
that manufacture electric air pumps for car tires. The 3
well-known ones are Viair , Slime , and Black & Decker . Viair produces plenty of top-notch automotive
products. They have a bunch or portable air compressors
including the one I mentioned above. I also own their
Dually RV tire gauge which is great value for money.
I got it for less than 15 bucks.
Black & Decker make insane amount of automotive
stuff ranging from the ever useful Ratcheting Wrench to
powerful 450 amps vehicle jumpstarting system. As for Slime,
well they make buckets of sticky, green ooze slime which you
can dump on vehicles own by people you absolutely hate. I’m
just kidding!
Actually Slime also makes a lot of automotive products
such as tire inflator, tire repair kit, digital compressor and
of course, the excellent tubeless sealant with pump . I purchase their sealant products regularly
but I never bought any of their compressor products.
However, a buddy of mine swears by the COMP06 which is a
heavy-duty tire inflator manufactured by Slime. I noticed
the COMP06 received a ton of favorable reviews on Amazon,
so perhaps you might want to check it out if currently
you’re on the market for a good quality tire
inflator.
